Hiroshima and the A-Bomb: An Eyewitness Account

Speaker: Junji Sarashina

Mr. Sarashina will talk about his experience as a hibakusha (atomic bomb survivor). Born in Hawaii in 1929, he was a U.S. citizen, but returned to Japan to study Japanese. When World War II broke out, he was unable to return to the U.S and stayed with relatives in Hiroshima. He was 16 years old and 1.5 miles from the hypocenter when the atomic bomb was detonated over the city. He will share with us his vivid memories of August 6, 1945, and the days following.
