Resources: April Speakers Forum – Othello: The Ballet

Julia Reinhard Lupton, PhD, shared scenes from a full-length story ballet based on Shakespeare’s Othello, choreographed by Lar Lubovitch. Can Shakespeare survive without language? How do you tell a story in movement alone?

Dr Lupton is a professor of English and Comparative Literature, with a joint appointment in Education, and associate dean for research at University of California – Irvine’s School of Humanities. She is also the Co-Director of UCI’s New Swan Shakespeare Center.  In addition, she serves as the faculty director of Illuminations, the Chancellor’s arts and culture initiative.
