The Larry Grannis Memorial Scholarship

Larry Grannis

October 10, 1931 – July 24, 2015

The Larry Grannis Memorial Scholarship is named for OC Mensan Lauren R. Grannis, who passed away at the age of 83. Larry joined Mensa in 1966 and became a Life Member of Mensa.

Much of Larry’s career was spent in broadcasting. His resonant voice regaled radio listeners in Los Angeles and Orange County for many years on station KWIZ.

He lived in Orange, California, from the mid-1990’s until his death. Larry remained an active volunteer all his life. He was a familiar sight on Wednesdays at the front entrance desk of Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

Although he and his wife had no children, Larry was passionate about helping young people achieve their dreams by making it possible for them to gain a college education. Larry served as OC Mensa’s Scholarship Chair for more than ten years. He devoted many hours each year to publicizing and promoting Mensa’s scholarship program. His will included a generous bequest to the Mensa Education and Research Foundation, to be used for scholarships for Orange County students.
